ALIENATION: SELF-ACTUALIZATION :: working for a product that we can never own // selling off our nature is all we've ever known // toiling for another with a pittance for our time // fattening the owners, rewarding for their crime // working in a process that we can never control // appendages of machinery is our only role // sacrificing autonomy to those that pull the strings // a cog in the production, reduced to being things // working against people who we can never know // convinced that competition is the only way we'll grow // isolated from each other with no commonality // systematically prevented from solidarity // working for a purpose that we can never feel // going through the motions in a life that seems unreal // estranged from our nature, wasting away our lives // enriching another just so we'll survive :: our social aspect of individuality // through a production system that is privately owned // we all function not as social beings // but as instruments, commercial commodity // to be traded on the market // is no substitute for social relationship // to be traded on the market // is no substitute for social relationship :: we must appropriate // the existing totality // of productive forces :: This song is about Marx's Theory of Alienation. Lyrics written by Stas of A//political. "The theoretic basis of alienation, within the capitalist mode of production, is that the worker invariably loses the ability to determine life and destiny, when deprived of the right to think (conceive) of themselves as the director of their own actions; to determine the character of said actions; to define relationships with other people; and to own those items of value from goods and services, produced by their own labour. Although the worker is an autonomous, self-realized human being, as an economic entity, this worker is directed to goals and diverted to activities that are dictated by the bourgeoisie, who own the means of production, in order to extract from the worker the maximum amount of surplus value, in the course of business competition among industrialists."

COMBUSTABLE :: survival skills, understanding behaviors // rage and anxiety, reaction and fears // trauma bonds and self medicating // physical pains and thoughts unclear // survival skills, hyper vigilant views // validating pain, hearing our stories // respecting our dignity to feel our traumas // respecting our dignity to know how histories :: CHORUS: anxiety anxiety // walls closing in on you and me // validation of pains ignored // in deafening silence we’ve survived // anxiety reality // celebrating resiliency :: recognizing patterns of abuse // setting gas lighters on fire // holding accountable those who dismiss // learning day to day how to re-acquire // power stolen and reclaiming control // rectifying and unlearning behaviors // respecting accountability // be be better fucking people who we promise to be // holding each other in our arms // setting wildfire to their fucking games // burning bridges to light the way // because we’re not fucking crazy :: anxiety anxiety // walls closing in on you and me // validation of pains ignored // in deafening silence we’ve survived // anxiety reality // celebrating resiliency // anxiety anxiety // walls closing in on you and me // validation of trauma ignored // in deafening silence we’ve survived // anxiety anxiety // isolation of sanity // anxiety reality // we’re not fucking crazy :: This song is about the need for more understanding of trauma and ptsd within our communities and particularly both the need to listen to, validate, and support survivors of trauma, but also to try to own up mistakes and be held accountable when we fuck up, and to read and learn more towards being better people. For Survivor Self Determination.

THE FIRST INTERNAL COLONY
:: capital gained // through flame soaked stakes // prerequisite finance // to develop industrial states // the millions of charred // forgotten bones towered // excess population // with dangerous ideas of power :: CHORUS: songs of pain and songs of fire // reaching heavens from the choir // their fruitless faith in gods mighty powers // unprotected in their final hours // songs of thanks and songs of fire // honoring our grandmothers’ power // our vengeance burns higher and higher // we’ll stack their faith on a funeral pyre :: widows, unmarried,
beguines for faith // merchants and landowners //
all laid to waste // divine greed stole // land and souls // justifying their horrors // by their god’s almighty word :: CHORUS :: This song is based off the book Night-Vision: Illuminating War and Class on the Neo-Colonial Terrain by Butch Lee. She writes about the understanding that the "witch hunts" were really about pre-capitalist accumulation of wealth and resources. Many women inherited land and resources because of the many crusades and wars which killed off men, many became involved with the Beguine movement which was a communistic christian movement for women that valued shared property, and vowing never to marry. Often the women massacred for being witches were those who had attained a sense of independence through this or who had never bought into the christian hegemony. These were a threat to the existing system and the massive wealth gathered from this massacre of millions of women aided in the church and feudal lords to begin lending money and financing "new world" conquests.

NO ONE HAD TO DIE :: and I sit there watching // while the sirens sing out loud // waiting for some clearance // as the bombs ring through the crowds // distant sounds of children // whisper through the sky // ghosts of tomorrow // thought no one had to die // dancing to the sirens // cacophony of death // celebrate destruction // with every passing breath // waiting for the answers // jumbled in their lies // collateral proclamations // said no one had to die // they plot their calculations // shredding flesh from bone // tears drench the soil // and they point to broken homes // analysts pour over // to satisfy the press // to justify the actions // of this unholy mess :: This song is about the shock and awe of the bourgeois media spectacle. How it plays games with emotions, and reduces bodies to statistics and collateral damage. How overwhelmed and inundated we are with atrocities to the point it numbs us and we glance at horrific headlines and scroll on.

WHAT I LEARNED
:: i won't be home tonight // i won't be warm next to you // i won't trust your dreams // anymore than my own // words as weapons // the violence of holding on // i want nothing more than to forget //in hopes that next time around // my heart is pure // these songs on repeat // the words reaching out for memories // turning back emptiness // turning back realities // my protest is about // knowing that I can trust // that my heart can be safe in this world // our words of sincerity // corrupted by our compromised // discrepancies between // our wants and our needs // breaking barriers and walls // to close an arms length gap :: CHORUS: sainthood in honesty // lending to a collection // of half truths and fits of desire // my heart weeps // for this world of dysfunction // my legacy of failure // screaming in one ear // my hope for some other way // pouring from my eyes :: and all this fucking madness // deafens our hearts // rebuilds our walls // resounds like shots fired // the ringing in our ears // a push and a shove // and a cop falls down // and an army stands in his wake // but you never gave up, we never gave up // on each other // holding each others hearts in our hands // crossing fingers for one more day // making promises and commitments // we could never keep // silencing our cries // begging for oblivion // this is just survival :: CHORUS :: does any of this make a differences // i’m tired of the same old songs // i’m tired of my same old hopes // i’m tired of reminders // that i fucked up again // i've stood against armies // i've stood against barriers deeper than this // and here i am // picking up my pieces // sifting through for another lesson :: CHORUS :: This song is about caring for people and missing people. Missing what seem today like simpler times. Overthinking the past all at once. Trying to make sense of what tomorrow's intent is. Trying to keep moving.
